Creative Loafing Atlanta to the rescue!
Events going on
today include:
Fri., Dec. 31
HOLIDAY
If anyone in Atlanta knows how to throw a party, it's a Gidewon brother. Promoter Alex Gidewon is Atlanta night-club royalty, and you can expect his Black Hollywood New Year's Eve at the Velvet Room to deliver some extravagance fit for a king. The black-tie affair, presented by Belvedere vodka and hosted by V-103's (WVEE-FM 103.3) Ryan Cameron, has a strict all-black dress code, so don't show up looking like a chump. For men, that means suits; ladies, cocktail dresses. $25-$50

HOLIDAY
It's definitely not a New Year's celebration without Uncle Lou's buzzed remix to "Auld Lang Syne." Not up for Uncle Lou's drunk toast this year? Well, ring in the new year with a little bit of class with seven party rooms, a comedy show, top-shelf and martini bars, a performance by Gritz and Jelly Butter, and more. $75

FOOD AND DRINK
Aqua blue is offering a special three-course menu for New Year's Eve with seating times available at 5:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. The celebration includes a DJ starting at 9 p.m., complimentary champagne toast at midnight and breakfast buffet at 12:30 a.m. The Roswell restaurant will also offer its regular menu. $49 per person or $69 with wine pairings
Fri., Dec. 31, 7:30 p.m.
HOLIDAY, COMEDY
Before Chris Tucker was getting high in the 'hood as Smokey in Friday, or making gazillions of dollars playing Jackie Chan's comedic sidekick in the Rush Hour trilogy, he was a stand-up comic from Atlanta just trying to make it. Tucker returns to his roots to bring in the New Year at the Fox Theatre. C'mon man, it's Friday; you ain't got no job, and you ain't got shit to do. And you know this, man! $49-$79
THE big events are the Chick-Fil-A Bowl (and the parade right before it, which is free, and which I think me and the Little Dragon and the Little Princess will go see!)

HOLIDAY, SPORTS AND HEALTH
The Florida State Seminoles and South Carolina Gamecocks battle it out to see if the ACC or SEC will rule this year in the 2010 Chick-fil-A Bowl. Of course, it wouldn't be football without the pre-game happenings like the Bowl Parade and some good ol' tailgating as the college season winds down. $80-$100
and
